Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) introduced the GENIUS Act (S. 1582), signed into law July 18, 2025, establishing federal standards for stablecoin regulation. Public records show he also helped craft the 2026 STABLE Act implementation, allowing state-chartered trust companies to serve as reserve custodians for large issuers. A reported Tether loan to a trust linked to Commerce Secretary Lutnick prompted a Senate probe in April 2026, though no direct connection to Hagerty has been alleged.
