Boeing enters $2.5B deferred-prosecution agreement over 737 MAX deception
Boeing agreed to a $2.5B resolution with the DOJ — comprising $243.6M criminal penalty, $1.77B compensation to airline customers, and $500M into a victim-beneficiary fund — to defer prosecution on criminal-conspiracy charges for defrauding the FAA's Aircraft Evaluation Group during the 737 MAX certification process. Senior Boeing pilots withheld material safety information about the MCAS flight-control system implicated in the Lion Air 610 (October 2018) and Ethiopian Airlines 302 (March 2019) crashes that killed 346 people.
