What Trahan says on the floor

15 passages in the Congressional Record, from the chamber's own transcript. Where a passage names a measure and the member voted on it within 45 days, the words and the vote sit together.

Most recent

  • Mr. Speaker, I thank the ranking member for yielding and for his strong leadership on this vitally important issue. When I joined the Energy and Commerce Committee 6 years ago, I committed to doing everything in my power to make the internet a safer place for my children, my two young daughters, specifically. In …
  • Mr. Speaker, I was unable to attend the first vote series today due to a delayed flight into Washington, D.C. Had I been present, I would have voted YEA on Roll Call No. 71, YEA on Roll Call No. 72, NAY on Roll Call No. 73, and NAY on Roll Call No. 74. PERSONAL EXPLANATION…
  • Mr. Speaker, this vote is a waste of time. Nothing in this Republican healthcare plan will stop Americans' healthcare premiums from skyrocketing. When this bill fails to become law--and it will fail--20 million Americans will see their premiums surge on January 1. Many will not even be able to afford hundreds or e…
  • Mr. Speaker, on that I demand the yeas and nays. The yeas and nays were ordered. Announcement By the Speaker Pro Tempore…
  • 2025-05-21 ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL ACT ↗ Health care & pharma
Mr. Speaker, I oppose this bill because it is a targeted attack on Planned Parenthood, one of the most trusted providers of reproductive healthcare in our country. The bill bans Federal Medicaid and CHIP dollars from going to Planned Parenthood for 10 years, without even naming the organization, by using vague cri…
  • 2025-05-20 GOP TAX SCAM HURTS WOMEN AND FAMILIES ↗ Health care & pharmaAgriculture & food
Mr. Speaker, proponents of Donald Trump's so-called big, beautiful bill are lying to the American people. They claim it won't cut Medicaid, but it slashes $715 billion, gutting care for seniors and children with disabilities. They insist moms and kids won't lose food assistance, but this bill will cut SNAP benefit…
  • Mr. Speaker, I was unable to attend the vote series today due to a personal family matter. Had I been present, I would have voted YEA on Roll Call No. 121 and NO on Roll Call No. 122. ____________________…
  • Mr. Speaker, I thank the gentleman for yielding, as well as his leadership and that of Chair Bilirakis on this important issue. Mr. Speaker, I introduced the Youth Poisoning Protection Act alongside Representative Mike Carey because we are facing an urgent and deeply troubling trend, the promotion of sodium nitrit…

What Trahan trades

No STOCK Act transaction reports on file for this member (House filings only so far).

How this is assembled

  • Roll calls come from the Senate's LIS XML (senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_votes) and the House Clerk's EVS XML (clerk.house.gov/evs), fetched nightly and never edited.
  • The party line on a roll call is the majority among that party's yea and nay votes. Party unity is the share of this member's yea/nay votes that matched it; a break is a vote that did not. Votes of “present” and absences count toward attendance only.
  • Members are identified by Biographical Directory (bioguide) id; senators' LIS ids are mapped through the unitedstates/congress-legislators roster.
  • Floor speeches come from the Congressional Record (govinfo), split at the speaker lines the Record prints and matched to the member by surname, chamber and state; a passage that names a measure the member later voted on is paired with that vote. Trades are the member's own STOCK Act periodic transaction reports — House filings parsed from the Clerk's PDFs, Senate filings from the Senate's electronic disclosure system. A trade is flagged when its company's sector is one a committee the member sits on oversees, when the member cast a yea or nay on a measure in that sector within thirty days of the trade, or when PACs in that sector gave the member $10,000 or more in a cycle. Sectors for companies come from the SEC's company list and SIC codes; measures' policy areas from the Library of Congress via govinfo.
  • Funding is the member's principal campaign committee as filed with the FEC: receipt totals from the committee's summary, every contribution from another political committee (Form 3, line 11C), and the FEC's own roll-up of individual money by employer. Sectors are assigned by a fixed, published list of name patterns, and the rule that fired is stored with each row.

A break with the party is a fact of the record, not a verdict. Procedural votes, amendments and motions to recommit are all in here; what a given break means is a question for the measure it was on, which is one click away.
